Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Procedures and Regulations (GEOG 158/GCIP 158/GEOL 158)
This course will equip students with knowledge about the regulations and procedures governing the safe and legal operation of small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS), commonly referred to as “drones”. The scope of this course coincides with the knowledge areas in the Federal Aviation Administration’s Part 107 airman knowledge test for a Remote Pilot Certificate with a sUAS rating, and is intended to prepare students who wish to become commercial sUAS pilots for the knowledge test.
Introduction to Remote Sensing and Drone Data Processing (GEOG 140)
Provides students with a basic understanding of theories and techniques used in the processing and analysis of satellite and drone (i.e. Unmanned aircraft systems) data. Topics include image and sensor characteristics, information derived from satellite and drone data, and image interpretation and analysis.
Digital Imaging with Drones I (GCIP 168)
An introduction to using drones or unmanned vehicles for digital imaging. This hands-on course covers building, operating, and outfitting for still and video imaging and image capture.
Digital Imaging with Drones II (GCIP 268)
Interediate uses of unmanned vehicles for digital imaging. This hands-on course covers high resolution video, aerial imaging, intelligent mission planning, and the use of underwater remotely operated vehicles (ROV) for image capture, editing, mapping and related uses.
Introduction to Drone Safety and Applications (N GEOG 900)
A survey of the regulations governing small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) operations and safety considerations. Existing and emerging trends of sUAS applications in various industries will also be discussed.
Small Business Entrepreneurship (BMGT 153)
An introduction to the creative and innovative managerial practices of successful entrepreneurship. Developing the necessary understanding to design, start, and manage a successful entrepreneur business. An overview of entrepreneurial process and investigate concepts tools and practices associated with identifying or creating new venture opportunities.
Drone Technology Internship (CE 100)
This class is structured as a supervised on the job training for drone technology students. Students are required to complete 60 hours of unpaid internship or 75 hours of paid internship for this course. Students will identify organizational objectives, accomplish measurable on the job learning objectives by completing work based projects, and undertake new or expanded workplace responsibilities.
Introduction to Electrical and Computer Engineering (ENGR 126)
Introductory concepts covering a broad range of topics in Electrical and Computer Engineering presented in an integrated approach at a hands-on level. Students work in small teams to analyze, build, and test a small unmanned aerial vehicle at the end of the semester. Provides basic understanding and skills for students to later build their theoretical understanding in more advanced physics and engineering courses.
Social Media For Business (BUS 152)
Explores social media use from a business perspective. Students learn how to develop a social media strategy to promote business, build strong customer relationships, and coordinate a common message across multiple channels. Strategic and tactical review of the major social networking platforms will be reviewed in order to drive business goals and create a personal brand online.
UAS for Veterans (GEOL 159)
This course will assist students in military service with transitioning into the career field of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), more commonly known as “drones.” This course will consist of a series of guest speakers with military backgrounds and current industry experience in UAS. Each speaker will address a different topic, which will include information about transitioning from active duty to student life, making the most of the GI Bill, how to start a drone business, as well as career and contracting opportunities for veteran-owned small businesses.
LiDAR Dara Processing and GIS Integration (GEOG 145)
This course will introduce students to basic concepts in Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR). Students will also learn to process LiDAR data collected by unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and analysis these data using Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
