{"id":1955,"date":"2019-11-25T00:29:16","date_gmt":"2019-11-25T00:29:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ibarrak.nastraining.com\/uastep\/?p=1955"},"modified":"2023-12-11T14:18:46","modified_gmt":"2023-12-11T14:18:46","slug":"2019-ate-pi-conference-a-student-perspective","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ibarrak.nastraining.com\/uastep\/2019-ate-pi-conference-a-student-perspective\/","title":{"rendered":"2019 ATE PI Conference: A Student Perspective"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-ast-global-color-6-background-color has-background\"><strong><em>A Student Perspective<\/em><\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Quinlan Smith, Isaac Hernandez, Diana Perez, Wing Cheung<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this year\u2019s Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Principal Investigator (PI) Conference, held in Washington DC from October 23 \u2013 25, 2019, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/uastep.org\/\">UASTEP<\/a>&nbsp;program and the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.geotechcenter.org\/\">National GeoTech Center<\/a>&nbsp;were represented by three Palomar College students who are in the College\u2019s geospatial technology and drone technology programs. As this is the first time that these students attended and presented their work at the ATE PI Conference, we have compiled some of their reflections and key takeaways below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students especially appreciated the opportunity to learn from other students at the poster session, as well as the \u201cunique opportunity to meet with some of the managers\/professors that are creating\/implementing training course\/programs in advanced technologies\u201d around the country. Additionally, another student remarked that by learning about related geospatial and drone programs during the showcase, it \u201cgave me a real appreciation of for the education I\u2019m attaining and how the skills I\u2019m developing will serve me in my future educational and GIS\/remote sensing aspirations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students were also inspired by the keynote address on the future of the evolving STEM workforce, and \u201cthe importance of resilience, continuing education, and building and nurturing social skills\/network for success in our nation\u2019s uncertain, high-tech future.\u201d However, a student also suggested for additional time to be devoted to student\/faculty roundtable discussions, which \u201ccould provide a unique opportunity for the cross pollination of ideas and an honest lessons-learned discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, the student participants characterized the conference as \u201cvaluable\u201d, \u201cbeneficial\u201d, and \u201cinformative\u201d, and \u201chope more students are able to attend in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Student Perspective Quinlan Smith, Isaac Hernandez, Diana Perez, Wing Cheung At this year\u2019s Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Principal Investigator (PI) Conference, held in Washington DC from October 23 \u2013 25, 2019, the&nbsp;UASTEP&nbsp;program and the&nbsp;National GeoTech Center&nbsp;were represented by three Palomar College students who are in the College\u2019s geospatial technology and drone technology programs.
